How-to

Embed an Instagram feed on Shopify

Shopify has no built-in Instagram feed, so this is either a manual embed, a bit of theme code, or an app. Here is each route with its real trade-offs — and the difference between a feed that decorates your homepage and one that produces orders.

Route 1 — Manual embed (free, but manual)

  1. Open the Instagram post on the web, click the menu, choose Embed, copy the code.
  2. In Shopify: Online Store → Pages (or a theme section that accepts custom HTML), switch the editor to </> HTML, paste.
  3. Save and preview.

Reality check: this embeds one post. A nine-post wall is nine embeds, each hand-updated forever, plus Instagram's script loaded on the page. Fine for a single hero post; unmanageable as a feed.

Route 2 — An app (what most stores do)

An Instagram feed app connects to your account and keeps the feed current automatically, with layout options and no theme code. This is the sensible default. The thing to compare is not looks — most look fine — but page-speed impact and whether the feed is shoppable.

Route 3 — Theme code / custom build

A developer builds against Meta's API and renders the feed in Liquid. Total control, but you now own token refresh, API changes and silent breakage, and the work is repeated at every theme change. Only worth it with a specific requirement and someone to maintain it.

The step most stores miss

A plain embedded feed is a leak. A shopper sees a reel of the exact product they want, taps it, and lands on Instagram — you have handed traffic you paid for to another platform, and you cannot tell whether the feed ever sold anything.

A shoppable feed keeps them on-site: tap the reel, see the product, add to cart in place. And because taps and orders are attributed per post, you learn which content converts instead of guessing.

Doing it with Quinn

  1. Install Quinn from the Shopify App Store (free plan available).
  2. Import reels by pasting their links — no account connection required, so nothing breaks when tokens expire.
  3. Tag the products that appear in each reel.
  4. Place the widget: grid, carousel, stories bar, floating player or a product-page block. No theme code.

About five minutes end to end. Video is compressed up to 20× by an in-house AI encoder and lazy-loaded from a CDN, so the feed does not cost you page speed.

Questions

Does Shopify have a built-in Instagram feed?

No. Shopify has no native Instagram feed, so you either paste Instagram's per-post embed code into a page, install an app, or have a developer build against Meta's API. Apps are the usual choice because they keep the feed current without maintenance.

How do I add an Instagram feed to Shopify for free?

Use Instagram's official embed code on a page, or an app with a free tier. The official embed handles one post at a time and must be updated by hand; Quinn's free plan covers about 550 views a month with an automatically maintained, shoppable feed.

How do I make my Shopify Instagram feed shoppable?

Tag products to each post or reel so shoppers can add to cart without leaving your store. With Quinn you import reels by link, tag the products in each, and place the feed as a grid, carousel or stories bar — then track add-to-carts and orders per post.

Will an Instagram feed slow down my Shopify store?

It can, especially widgets that load large third-party scripts or serve video uncompressed. Look for lazy loading, CDN delivery and compression — Quinn compresses video up to 20× — and check your Shopify store speed report after installing anything.
